Love letters (flutters) from Shogoji, 2007

Linocut, monoprint, chine colle

Multiple panels, each 40 x 10cm

This is a work in progress.

Love letters (flutters) is about spoken words and unspoken thoughts, the intimate communication between two people who are separated geographically but not emotionally. Letters, written to each other between the two destinations during the time spent apart, closely connects them until they reunite.

The butterflies represent the carrying of these messages, and also refer to the practice of Zen monks who, while walking through the temples, open (flutter) the pages of sutra books to silently spread the dharma.
